Technical Overview
Engineering breakdown of Optimizing Zero Trust Tunneling for Edge Cloud (3716). Bare-metal hardware performance requires isolated kernel parameters, deterministic NIC queue mapping, and cryptographic offload tuning. This article explores the control-plane/data-plane separation, mutual TLS handshake latency reduction, and eBPF-based policy enforcement at the edge.

eBPF/XDP kernel filter evaluates TCP/UDP frames directly on server NIC.
Deep Dive: eBPF Policy Enforcement
We leverage XDP and TC eBPF programs to enforce Zero Trust policies at line rate. The following diagram illustrates the packet flow through the edge node: ingress NIC -> XDP drop/redirect -> TC ingress classification -> userspace policy agent -> TC egress encryption -> egress NIC. This eliminates kernel-to-userspace context switches for the fast path.
